Cousins, the date has been finalized. Please check the post where I said tentative schedule. July 3rd will be the final date of our most awaited grand reunion. I visited tita Miling today to firm up with her our welcome party at Park Project 6. The party will be catered so that not one single cousin will be burdened with the prep etc. This being said please know that the cost per person to attend will be posted closer to the reunion date. All other expenses related to the Vigan trip will be posted as well so each attendee will have an idea of what to expect to spend.

Things are shaping up more and more. I am going to meet with the local deleons when I visit Vigan this Holy Week. The date is set for July 3rd, Sunday. Everyone please plan on arriving Manila Saturday night as the party begins at noon Sunday. Feedback is most welcome for other things that we can do as a brood for the days that we have left that week when we go back to Manila. Guys might want to do some male bonding playing golf? While the women can go and have a massage or shopping?

Food Glorious Food

Let me just walk through some of the more famous courses that Vigan is known for aside from bagnet, longanisa and empanada (which is really more of a snack than anything else): sinanglao, pipian, bagbagis, dinardaraan, chicharon, dinaldalem, lechon or inasar (the local one has a special ingredient called karimbuaya that makes it taste different), kare-kare (no need for alamang here), lomo, chicken with maraotong, vigan tapa and costillas, pochero, goat imbalittad and kaldereta, local miki and a slew of other items that may not always be "healthy" by modern day standards. Not being a cook, it would be difficult to completely describe these dishes which await us all come 2011.

Imagine the brood members hiring several calesas as we enjoy the ride along the streets of Vigan and afterwards enjoy some empanadas and cold soda (Coke or Orange)

Gia did a preliminary head count of all the brood members. If everybody attends the reunion...there will be 85 of us, from Tang (the oldest) to Marcus (the youngest). Wow, that's alot of people.

Bagnet ( Local version of Lechon Kawali)

Be sure to bring your Lipitor (high cholesterol meds) if you want to feast Bagnets...I remember the days when tito Baby and I would go directly to the bagnet vendor in Cuta to pick up some freshly fried pieces. I saw it with my own two eyes how they fried this big chunks of pork...Food coma or heart attack.. Any takers?

Vigan Empanadas Anyone???

One of the things we will be doing in Vigan is to have "Empanada Eating Sessions". But what I really am hoping to arrange is a private Mass of Thanksgiving and offering for our loved ones who are now in heaven, at the Camposanto Chapel (Vigan Cemetery). We will also have walking tours as a group and of course the famous calesa rides.

Let's get the show on the road by coming out with a tentative itinerary that all relatives can add to. Then we can flesh out the details and improve the plan as we move along.

This is it. The water is so warm as early as six am. If any of the cousins from overseas is in need of more information, please let me know. Agnes knows the manager there and I befriended her during my stay. They have units that can acommodate a whole family. This is a small and intimate resort and the beach is about twenty steps from your room. I am not kidding. The unit you see in this pic was where I stayed and it had a small private oceanfront patio. Let's go guys.

This is where the De Leon roots came from. This will be the highlight of the reunion. There are a lot of hotels in Vigan now ranging from the high end Vigan Plaza Hotel two blocks from tito Bocs or tito Baby's and other two star hotels, all airconditioned rooms if I must say. More to follow.

Acuatico Beach Resort, San Juan, Batangas

Day Tour rate is PhP 1,575/person inclusive of lunch and use of the resort and its water sports facilities. This is very private. I stayed here last year. They have a very nice infinity edge pool overlooking the beach. This may be a bit pricy for the locals if there's a family of four BUT this is a very good resort to hold a one day beach gig. The brood members can have the option to stay overnight as they wish. The rooms are equipped with LCD 32 inch tvs, nice beddings and Kohler bathroom fixtures.

This place is very expensive but with under two years to go, if one starts saving now, maybe I can get a group discount. Who's in???
